Employee Spotlight Special Edition: Anneliese Waters

Employee Spotlight:

Congratulations on being a valued CL&A employee.

Tell us a little about yourself.

I am a native of the San Fernando Valley and have been in the Social Services field for 18 years.  This is my first time working with Veterans. Most of my experience has been with children and families.  I am a mom of 4 beautiful girls and a stepmom to one more girl and one boy. Yep 6 children ranging in ages from 18 to 2.  The boy is the oldest and he is in the Airforce so there are 5 girls still at home.

What is your role at CL&A?

I am a Clinical Case Manager with the HUD VASH program.

What would people never guess you do in your role?

Honestly, I think everything we do can be surprising to people that are not in our field.  What is probably most surprising I guess is that we address all areas in someone’s life, not just housing.  That might mean going to court with someone or making sure someone gets food-essentially it means practicing human kindness.

What aspect of your role do you enjoy the most?

I enjoy meeting and working with our clients.  That is what I enjoy most about social work; working with people from all different walks of life.

How did you first learn about CL&A?

I found CL&A through Indeed and honestly, I knew nothing about the agency or what kind of work it involved all I knew was it required a master’s degree in Social Work.

What do you like most about CL&A?

I love the variety in this job.  No day is ever like the day before.  And I also love the flexibility.

Before working here, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?

I worked at Department of Children and Family Services which was extremely difficult, and I also worked for Children of the Night as both a teacher and a case manager with adolescents that had been victims of sex trafficking-also very emotionally trying.

What kinds of hobbies and interests do you have outside of work?

I love to read, volunteer, and garden.

What is one thing you couldn’t live without?

MUSIC (can’t live without seeing live music on a regular basis)

What is your hidden talent?

What is your biggest pet peeve?

What is your favorite movie and book?

Oh, my goodness!!! There are so many. One of my all-time favorite books is Weaveworld by Clive Barker.  Also, some of the classic dystopian novels like Brave New World and 1984.  I just read The Stand by Stephen King which was amazing also. Movies…. I have to say I love horror movies and I love gore.  I loved House of 1000 Corpses and Tucker and Dale vs Evil.  I also enjoy a good laugh which Kung Fu Hustle is great for.  Got to say I also love kids’ movies-ParaNorman is such a great movie.  Like I said, way too many to name!
