Employee Spotlight

Welcome to our employee spotlight page. At CL&A we realize that our success comes from the people that have joined our CL&A family. Without our hardworking and dedicated teams, we would not be where we are today. In an effort to recognize our employees for the exemplary work that they do, we’d like to take a moment and highlight one member, who we believe to be doing an outstanding job. The people who are featured here represent the best of us. They are an example to everyone around them of the excellence that can be achieved.

Employee Spotlight: Patricia Lopez
Congratulations to Patricia Lopez on being a valued CL&A employee. You are an outstanding member of our team, and we couldn’t do it without you! We are honored to highlight you in this month’s employee spotlight.

Tell us a little about yourself.
I’m a nerd that tripped and fell into the perfect job for me, techy stuff.

What is your role at CL&A?
I’m an Administrative Coordinator and handle the equipment (and ensuing problems) that get used by our employees. I order/issue/repair equipment and act as a general technology troubleshooter. If something breaks, I’ll find a way to repair/replace it.

What would people never guess you do in your role?
Ask for help. Sometimes a problem comes up that is beyond my knowledge. When that happens, I get researchy and if that doesn’t yield any results, I know it’s time to escalate things to tier 2 support (Wes).

What aspect of your role do you enjoy the most?
I really like that I get to fix problems. There really is something rather cool about hearing the sigh of relief in a person’s voice when their issue gets resolved. Plus, sometimes they squeal with happiness. That’s awesome too.

How did you first learn about CL&A?
Carlos told me he was bidding on some VA contracts, but I had a position that I had just started with the state. A couple of years later he said the company was expanding and since I had already expressed a desire to leave my current position, he offered me a chance to join. I signed up and the rest is history.

What do you like most about CL&A?
I like that the company cares about people. Whether it’s the people we serve or the people who have joined us, the company cares. Sure, we’ve had our ups and downs, but I know that we have some incredibly awesome people that are part of this company and they will do whatever they can for us.

Before working here, what was the most unusual or interesting job you've ever had?
Well, 1 job led to another. First, I was a Correctional Officer at a medium security men’s prison. I was there for a year and a half when I transferred to Parole division in Victoria, Texas. Prison was smelly, and Parole was interesting. The excuses people came up with when testing positive for drugs ran from typical (“I thought it was a cigarette.”) to the more creative, (“I swear I wasn’t smoking nothing. They must’ve spiked my birthday cake.”) Oh sooo many excuses.

What kinds of hobbies and interests do you have outside of work?
I like doing crafty things, like knitting, crocheting and I’m trying to learn how to make felted things. I love movies and reading and games. Currently my fiancé and I are playing Gloomhaven in the evenings. It’s a board game that’s kind of like D&D without a DM and it’s a lot of fun.

What is one thing you couldn’t live without?
My family (furry and human). They are all so awesome and the puppers keep my toes warm.

What is your hidden talent?
I can knit with my eyes closed.

What is your biggest pet peeve?
People being rude or mean for no reason. I honestly don’t understand why people are that cruel to each other.

What is your favorite movie and book?
Favorite movie (right now) is Deadpool. Favorite book
