Employee Spotlight

Welcome to our employee spotlight page. At CL&A we realize that our success comes from the people that have joined our CL&A family. Without our hardworking and dedicated teams, we would not be where we are today. In an effort to recognize our employees for the exemplary work that they do, we’d like to take a moment and highlight one member, who we believe to be doing an outstanding job. The people who are featured here represent the best of us. They are an example to everyone around them of the excellence that can be achieved.

Employee Spotlight: Lorecel Tapia
Congratulations to Lorecel Tapia on being a valued CL&A employee. You are an outstanding member of our team, and we couldn’t do it without you! We are honored to highlight you in this month’s employee spotlight.

Tell us a little about yourself.
I am a proud mom of three. I am a USAF Vet. I am an immigrant. I was born and raised in the Philippines. When I was 19 years old, my father petitioned for me to live in Hawaii.  My father is a military retiree and some of my uncles from both sides of my family have also served. They inspired me to join the Air Force. After I decided to get out of the military, I spent a couple of years as a full-time mom. Then I went to back to school to study Social Work.

What is your role at CL&A?
HUD VASH Care Coordinator.

What would people never guess you do in your role?
I can’t really think of any. Maybe dreaming about doing those treatment plans and psychosocial

What aspect of your role do you enjoy the most?
This may sound cliché or cheesy, but I really enjoy having the chance to empower and inspire my fellow Veterans. When I was in the Air Force, I wanted to earn the title “The Chief, The First Sergeant” -- the one who takes care of the soldiers and their families. I kind of see my role right now as somewhat similar of a First Sergeant’s role.  My role lets me take care of Veterans and their families. It is nice to see a Veteran get excited about moving into their own apartment. I like that I have the opportunity to provide Veterans the tools and resources to become independent. Also, I get the chance to somehow teach or guide them to advocate for themselves.

How did you first learn about CL&A?
Through a staffing agency.

What do you like most about CL&A?
I like the culture because it provides a supportive environment, which I think encourages tolerance, positive collaboration and creativity. I also like that the company is family oriented and it recognizes the importance of work/life balance.

Before working here, what was the most unusual or interesting job you've ever had?
I got my first job here in America as a door to door sales rep, trying to sell a $1900 vacuum. I knocked on people’s door, begged them to watch my demo/presentation, so that I could convince them how a very pricey vacuum will change their lives for the better. It was a terrible work experience. I was a terrible sales rep.

What kinds of hobbies and interests do you have outside of work?
I love to read. I like taking trips with my families/loved ones whenever I can. I like to cook and try recipes from different countries whenever I have free time.

What is one thing you couldn’t live without?
A wooden rosary that was given to me as a gift years ago. I take it everywhere. It gives me comfort. Also, I’ve got to have a pen and a paper to write stuff that goes through my mind. Writing helps me clear my thoughts and stay focused. That’s three things I can’t live without.

What is your hidden talent?
I can be creative and artistic. I like to draw/sketch especially people’s faces, and I think I’m good at it. I also like expressing ideas in the form of arts.

What is your biggest pet peeve?
Plain rude, negative and judgmental people. I try to really avoid being around/near with such type of people. I am a strong believer that kindness is a must, and I do not like dealing with unnecessary stress or negativity.

What is your favorite movie and book?
I have a few favorite movies that I can watch over and over again--The Color Purple, Forest Gump, Dances with Wolves, Braveheart, Titanic, and Transformers (the first one).
Favorite book? “The Color Purple” by Alice Walker.
