Employee Spotlight

Welcome to our employee spotlight page. At CL&A we realize that our success comes from the people that have joined our CL&A family. Without our hardworking and dedicated teams, we would not be where we are today. In an effort to recognize our employees for the exemplary work that they do, we’d like to take a moment and highlight one member, who we believe to be doing an outstanding job. The people who are featured here represent the best of us. They are an example to everyone around them of the excellence that can be achieved.

Employee Spotlight: Laura Maroon
Congratulations to Laura Maroon on being a valued CL&A employee. You are an outstanding member of our team, and we couldn’t do it without you! We are honored to highlight you in this month’s employee spotlight.

Tell us a little about yourself.
I am very grateful to have been nominated and would like to thank the person who did so.
I have an AAS from Bel-rea Veterinary technician school, which was associated with a show on Animal Planet called Emergency Vets. I actually got to work in the hospital where they filmed the show. I have a BA in Criminal Justice. I’ve worked as a Veterinary Technician, an Animal Control Officer and as a 911 Dispatcher in a single person dispatch center. I worked as a parole officer in the SE Houston, Corpus Christi and Victoria parole offices.

Been married to James for almost 4 years. We have a daughter, Caroline, who is about to turn 4 in July. I have 2 wonderful boys, Jeremy, 14, and Brandon, 12. They are the reason I get up in the morning. I also have a dog, 2 cats and a red eared slider turtle.

What is your role at CL&A?
My position at CL&A is a Quality Assurance Specialist. I work to ensure that all team members will know where they stand with each of their cases in terms of visits and deliverables.

What would people never guess you do in your role?
I think a lot of people know basically what we as Quality Assurance Specialists do, but I think we focus more on what we need to do as a team in order to get our vets the service they deserve. We make sure that the case managers have every bit of information that they need to do their jobs well.

What aspect of your role do you enjoy the most?
Interacting with our Teams. I thoroughly enjoy speaking with everyone. Each person brings so much to our Teams and I delight in learning about each person and recognizing the amazing work that they do and their dedication and commitment to our veterans. I am honored to be a part of our Teams!

How did you first learn about CL&A?
Patricia encouraged me to apply to CL&A and see if I would be a good fit and potential asset to the company. I can’t imagine not being here – I am so thankful to Patricia for introducing me and encouraging me to apply. I also adore Patricia and her sense of humor!

What do you like most about CL&A?
The people and the atmosphere! We all know when it’s time to have our noses to the grind stone and also when it’s time to let go and be silly – release the stresses that may have been on us. There is laughter every day and smiles in abundance. I couldn’t ask for better co-workers, in Beeville AND New York, or for a better environment!

Before working here, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?
I once worked as a production engineer at a radio station in Las Vegas. I produced a number of shows (political, sports, humor) as well as working to broadcast as the Official Radio Station of the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. I was working from the middle of the track during NASCAR and other races. It was amazing!

What kinds of hobbies and interests do you have outside of work?
Most of my time outside of work I spend with my 3 children (14 yo boy, 12 yo boy, 3 yo girl). They are the light of my life! MUSIC – from Mozart and Vivaldi to Air Supply to Metallica and everywhere in between – music truly gives me much joy. I also enjoy crocheting – at least starting many crochet projects (finishing is another story). I also enjoy reading….AND I LOVE HOCKEY! – GO, BRUINS!!!

What is one thing you couldn’t live without?
My children because they are my greatest accomplishment in life. Regardless of success in any other aspect of my life, my children are my heartbeat and my breath.

What is your hidden talent?
Does the ability to pick up most things with my toes count? No? Well then it must be that I have extremely sensitive olfactory senses! From chlorine in tap water to mold/mildew in the ice machines (I can smell and taste that in my drinks) – I can usually tell. This is a talent I wish I did not have!

What is your biggest pet peeve?
Lying and being disrespectful.

What is your favorite movie and book?
Movie – Gone With The Wind. Book is a tie between Little Women by Luisa May Alcott and The Bastard by John Jakes (book 1 in the Kent Family Chronicles).
