Employee Spotlight: James Urtekar
Congratulations to James Urtekar on being a valued CL&A employee. You are an outstanding member of our team, and we couldn’t do it without you! We are honored to highlight you in this month’s employee spotlight.

Tell us a little about yourself.
I’m James Urtekar, born in New Brunswick, NJ and am of Indian heritage. I have one older sister and three nephews. My parents immigrated to the US in 1977 from the state of Maharashtra (India). I am a member of the New Brunswick Seventh-Day Adventist Church. I went to a boarding school for high school, where I came home for 5 days per month. I enlisted into the Army in 1998 and have two specialties (Chaplains Assistant and Civil Affairs Specialist). I have a dual bachelors in Psychology and Psychiatric Rehab. I am a Certified Psych Rehab Practitioner. I have a passion for helping the underdog and serving others.

What is your role at CL&A?
Habilitation Counselor (HUD-VASH Case Manager)

What would people never guess you do in your role?
I always take the stairs on outreach, no matter what floor the client is on!

What aspect of your role do you enjoy the most?
Seeing the look on a veteran’s face when they receive their apartment key!

How did you first learn about CL&A?
Through Rutgers UBHC

What do you like most about CL&A?
The down to earth staff, accessibility of staff, family-like atmosphere, always feeling included, and the high morale that CL&A exudes!

Before working here, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?
I worked and volunteered as an Emergency Medical Technician for 4 years with St Peter’s University Hospital, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, Reliable Ambulance, Alert Ambulance, and South River Rescue Squad. Some of the duties I performed were first aid, heavy rescue, and water rescue.

What kinds of hobbies and interests do you have outside of work?
Playing guitar (Breedlove Passport) and riding my motorcycle (2006 Honda Shadow Spirit VT750

What is one thing you couldn’t live without?
A camera!  I'm a tourist everywhere I go.  Even if I go to the same place a dozen times, I always find something new to admire

What is your hidden talent?
I ski on double-black diamonds!

What is your biggest pet peeve?
Picky and complaining people!

What is your favorite movie and book?
Favorite movie: Top Gun (1986). Favorite book: Ghost Boy by Martin Pistorius
